What happend to school supplies?

Remember the days that going to pick out school supplies was the most awesome event ever? You could get those neato Lisa Frank folders, or grab an awesome Chicago Bears one?? It was the best thing to get to personalize and pick out folders and notebooks and more. You got to decide which crayons to get Rose Art or Crayola? You even got to decide what kind of paper to use, wide rule or college rule?

Well, after shopping for my 1st grader this weekend he and I were both very disappointed. Does he have the Ninja Turtles or the Chima stuff he wanted, NO. It is not because I would not let him. It was all thanks to a lovely piece of paper from the school which specified what brands and items to get as well as the folders. We have plain blue plastic, yes plastic not paper, folder that we are not allowed to put his name or anything on. We have a plain pencil box that is also not allowed to have his name on it. We had to have Crayola crayons and markers, which while I prefer them what if I wanted a choice. What ever happened to a kid getting to be excited about going back to school? Education is a great thing, really it is the key and the backbone to our kids futures and is what helps them become smart enough to one day realize that they have to take care of us as parents when we get old and gray. Who am I kidding, I am already graying!! Anyway, my point is, let them express themselves. Let them want to come to school. Some kids do not want to be there and if something like picking out a Chima folder will help them want to go, then by all means let them!!!

Book Review: Blue is for Nightmares

I picked up this book at a new local store based on an employee's recommendation. At first, I was hesitant, while I do enjoy YA books I was afraid that it would be cheesy with her being a "witch", and with them all being so young.

I am glad that I grabbed this book and was not disappointed at all. I LOVED the supernatural aspect, as that is my favorite go to in books, but it was believable and I could totally picture everything that happened. I will have to say that while I enjoyed the book, I totally had the "stalker" figured out very quickly. I do wish that it would have been more of a guess for me on who it was. I also would have liked to have a little more detail on the "stalker" character. There was so much more that could have been explained about him.

My favorite character, Amber, was actually a side character in the book, and she was just too funny.

Overall, I enjoyed this book enough to go back to the store and pick up book number two in this series and being it almost immediately. If you enjoy YA I would give this a go.

Check it out on Amazon!!

I post lots of reviews on Goodreads as well. Be sure to head on over there, I accept friends requests there!

Book Review:Night Thief by Lisa Kessler

I finished this book rather quickly, as it is a quick read. With the first chapter I was really unsure of how I was going to feel about this book, yet I kept reading, as I was still intrigued. The synopsis of the book is really what grabbed my attention in the first place and knew I would have to give it more than a chapter to get to the good stuff.

I will have to say that I now think that I am a new fan of Lisa Kessler, and I am so ready to read the other stories that are a part of the Night Series. I love that she is not repetitive with descriptions as some romance writers can be. I loved the character development and growth that you saw with Rita, and of course who would not love Kane! The idea of shape-shifting,and immortality both really appealed to me as well. My brain was in overload, but in a good way. I kept chanting to myself. "vampires, gods, and a thief. Oh my!". I have also become someone who loves nothing more than to be able to dive into the world, based and the description. With the mention of actual places in Paris, slight French here and there, and just the overall descriptions given I truly felt immersed in this book and the world that was in it!

I am giving this book 4 stars instead of five for two main reasons:
1. While I knew it was a novella from the beginning I wished for more.
2. I for some reason did, as I mentioned, have a bit of trouble getting into in during the first bit.

I cannot wait to start on the first actual book in the Night Series and hope that it grabs me the way that this wonderfully written novella did!!

*In full complete disclosure I was given a free copy of this book to read and review for my honest opinion. This is my honest opinion and was in no way persuaded one way or another by the author or anyone else!

Oh XBox how you confuse me....

A few weeks ago I watched the awesomely over hyped XBox reveal and was left sitting there totally confused when the reveal was over. For the last few weeks I have discussed the new Xbox One with the hubs, my totally great cousin, and my nephews. We have all come to one conclusion...

WE DO NOT GET IT!!!!

I thought today's media brief from XBox would give me more answers, and well, of course not. I am only more confused than I was before I watched today's media briefing. So yeah, you showed me tons of new games but you still have not answered mine, a a million other people's questions. For example:

1. Will they ever make it to where I can play the games that I have already spent a lot of money on for the 360?

2. Why must I have the One connected to the internet at all times, to where every time I walk into the room the new kinect picks me up? Why, are you secretly recording me for some creepy reason?

3. Why can't I borrow a friends game or rent one from Gamefly, like I have been doing for years? Monopoly much?

While I do have other questions and concerns, if I were to voice them all I might just sound like one of those crazy "government conspiracy theory people". This so far at $499 sounds like a whole ton of mess. A mess that while be the only Xbox system that the new Halo will be launched on!! SERIOUSLY!! Come on 343 how could you allow them to do this to us?

Microsoft, I guess this week at E3 I really do not expect you to answer any of your loyal fans questions, but I am sure that you will continue to show us flashy new games and use the word "innovative" about a zillion times. Good luck with that!

Mini Me's first trip to the comic book store!

Today was an adventurous day here. While we go to the book store at least once a week and my son has been given comic books before we had never made a trip to a legitimate comic book store. Today that changed.

While watching a vlogger hangout from the Geek and Sundry channel I was listening to Amy Dallen talk about comics and decided to research if there was a store even anywhere near us. I was in luck and scored. Somehow I missed that there is a comic store only about 3 miles for me. WOAH! SAY WHAT................

Sorry, I got excited there for a moment. So, yes, I found a comic book store. Now that made me super excited. While I am not big into comic books, I am trying to be, as I was just never really introduced to them! So midgey, that's what we sometimes call the little one, walked into the store his eyes lit up. He immediately in the first 3 minutes had two comics he wanted us to buy and within another five minutes after that, we had added a pack of Pokemon cards. I was please that I got out of there for under $15 bucks and I think that overall it was a great experience. I will say that choosing to go on the afternoon that they were having the "Magic the Gathering" tournament was a maybe not a smart idea. While there was nothing wrong it was a little crowded, and I was the only girl in the whole store.

I will say that I will be going back for myself, because when I was walking out the door I caught sight of Doctor Who and Buffy and I feel that I must see what those comics are about. Yes, I know that they are about the show, but I need to see if comics are going to be my secret long lost love that I knew nothing about!

Are you a comic lover? What is your favorite comic?
